I am no superman
I have no answers for you
I am no hero, oh that’s for sure
But I do know one thing for sure
Is where you are, is where I belong
I do know, where you go, is where I want to be
Happy Halloween. My Halloween post last year had the song "The Wobblin' Goblin with the Broken Broom" starting it. I think that is the most search item on google that finds my site. Isn't that interesting. It's a random song to be googled, to start with, but then it's random that my site shows up. huh. ahh well. I was a very cute Chimmney Sweep at school on Friday, I must say. I was afraid people didn't know who I was, but everyone did. Except for Steve, but he's always an exception. And Mrs. Gardner (history, not English) thought I was Oliver Twist- but she saw me without my chimney sweeper (is that what they're called? Chimmney Sweeps have chimney sweepers to sweep the chimmney with?) So she had an excuse, too. It was a fun day, overall. Fun fun fun. Did I write about that in my last post. I don't know. Funnny.

I saw a sneak preview of "Finding Neverland" with Margot and Ellie and Emily. It was fantastic. Really. I sobbed so hard. But, then again, I do have a weakness for Peter Pan. Major Weakness. Of course, I have no one to blame except myself. And Jesse George-Nichol, for that flaw. Ahh Jesse. Jesse, Margot and I wrote a story about Neverland it was really good, but it never really ended. Too bad. It was quite fun to write. Anyway, that's how it started. Maybe that and the fact that I don't want to grow up, either.... I won't grow up, I won't grow up, I don't want to wear a tie, and a serious expression, in the middle of July...... I think I used that for a post a long time ago, too.

Speaking of movies, I still really really really want to see Garden State. Really really. That looks like my kind of movie. Maybe. Margo and Ellie and Emily said they'd go with me next weekend. That would be funfunfun.

OHHH NOOO, Leo died in West Wing. And they left him in the woods at Camp David! Man! I thought that he was going to get fired, that's understandable, and he did. But DIEING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WOODS! That seems a little harsh. He should have gotten fired, he nearly quit. It was bound to happen. But it was cruel to have him die, alone, in the middle of New England. Ahhh Leo. But Jimmy Smits is replacing his character, I do believe. That should be interesting. Very interesting. Jimmy Smits is going to have a big role in Revenge of the Sith. OHHH The trailer of Revenge of the Sith comes out on the 5th! That's friday! Everyone should go see The Incredibles if just to see that trailer. Man! I'm excited.!!!! STAR WARS!

When the moon is in the seventh house
And jupiter aligns with mars
The peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age of aquarius
The age of aquarius
Extravaganza was very very good Thursday night. Incredibly. It made me wish I could sing and I could play the cello and I still played the trombone. But Only for a little while. I'm over it. But they were all very fabulous indeed. It made me happy. And Excalibur sang "In the Jungle" which was amazing, and I couldn't stop smiling. Angie & her jazz band played- all the jazz bands were good. It was a fun night- and I was over (for me) around 10, but all the choir kids were up until 12 at least doing tear-down and going to Denny's. But they had fun, too.
Swimming is also a blast. I still do miss some of the kids from last year, but that's okay. This year is ultra-fun, too. Steph has started coming to practices, which is good- she's hilarious. Speaking of which- Cross Country state is today- I hope they do fabulously. The girls, especially. Mrs. Cady said that they had a chance at first- although the runners don't think so. They're seated 3rd-ish, but so was the swim team, and we won state. Perhaps the luck will carry over. =)
The Banner came out yesterday. It was a pretty good issue- although I wrote the Staff Editorial, so I wasn't really credited. All well. We also had a Special Section about the election- which was very biased, I thought it was funny. =) Some pro-Bush people were upset. Tsk tsk. I do hope Kerry wins. Wyatt wrote a column about how the voting age should be lower, and I do think there's a good arguement to that fact- a lot of kids at FHS have much more of an idea about what happening in the world than many adults, I'm sure. But then there are the teenagers who don't know nor care what is happening. But I wish I could vote. This guy is going to be in office until I'm 20! That's old old old. And I can't REALLY do anything about it. bah!
I was going to write something else.....what was it? humph

Everything I am
And everything in me
Wants to be the one
You wanted me to be
I'll never let you down
Even if I could
I'd give up everything
If only for your good
I turn SO red after I swim hard. Really. Beet Red, strawberry red, rose red, red red red red. And I stay that way for a long time, too. My face literally radiates heat. Steffi's car fogged up after I sat in it. It was terrible. =) Ellen reminded me of the Minute Man set during summer league that we would do- our faces got really really red during that. As red as dawn with her rose-colored fingers (to quote Homer). As red as a ripe tomato in September.

California was great fun. I didn't see Caroline, which was a bummer, but she was busy with more important things. Our schedules just didn't mesh. We did visit the Rogge's though. That was great. I think it's important to keep in touch with good friends. I should write them both an email, while I'm think about it. =) We went to the Carmel Beach with them, the water was too cold to go swimming, but we had a marvelous time reminscing while walking in the sand. I love the ocean. The last time I was at the ocean was with the Nichols. Those are old friends, too. Very old. Much older than the Rogge's, but the same concept. Morgan and Hannah seem exactly the same as they did two years ago. Morgan can still control Hannah in a sisterly way, and Hannah goes along with it, but every once in a while she shines through. Morgan is as funny as ever, Hannah hasn't changed her contagious laugh. It made me happy. I'm always kinda sad when we have to leave, though. I don't want to think about when we'll see them next. There's a good chance we'll never see Morganaut and Shrimp. Hannah's name used to be Shrimp- the whole school called her that. Not anymore. I said it once and Angie gave me a nasty look. I think Hannah liked the comment, though.

We also went to the Monterray Aquarium- which was fantastic. Maybe I'll be a marine biologist. Huh. Visiting Stanford made me think about what I'm going to do when I grow up which a) I'm don't like and b) I'm not very good at because it kinda scares me. I think it's odd I still use the term "when I grow up". I think I'll use it for the rest of my life, just because I won't want to do so.

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward. Maybe they have to be crazy. How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels? We make tools for these kinds of people. While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

And he don't sleep late anymore
Up like a farmer at half past four
When that sleepy sun pops up
He's halfway through his second cup
HOLY STROMBOLI! What a good evening. My day was good, as usual, but it was a way above average evening. Angie and Margot and Ellie and I went to a rally at Pearl Street for the environment. It was cool. Angie and I didn't stay the whole time, though, because we had to go to swim practice. There were only 17 kids at swimming, which is nice, I dislike crowded pools. Ellen and I both killed at PowerRack. I did especially well at freestyle, my backstroke times changed a lot, but 3 were under my goal time. But Free was good. AND THEN Mindy and Jill had strech cords all set up and those were fabulously fun. I was connected to an elastic cord that barely streched 25 yards. After I worked my butt off to get to the other end, Mindy would haul me back and the cord would constrict, so I was doing a 25 in less than 10 seconds. It was great. That is so fast. We were FLYING. It was really an incredible feeling- gliding through the water that fast, I felt like a skipping stone, just barely touching the water at all. Incredible, truly incredible.

West Wing premiered tonight. The episode went beyond all expectations. It's very suspenseful. West Wing is the only current TV show I watch, really. I highly recommend it. I hope that Donna gets better soon, though. I would be very sad if she didn't. Poor Joshua. =)

We're going to Stanford tomorrow early early early. It's my parents 25th reunion, so I'm going to check out the school. Stanford would be really fun to go to, but I don't know. I get to see Caroline, though. AND MORGANAUT AND SHRIMPKID. YEAH!!! I'm really excited about that. Morgan and Hannah, I do hope they are doing well. =)

You know you're from Boulder when... (these are kinda funny)

You understand the utility of burning a couch in the street.

You really believe that there is a war between Boulder High and Fairview.

You shop at Alfalfa's, and think that it's quilty eating.

You wear shorts in the winter.

Riding your bike in the middle of the street is okay.

You had a hour long coversation about the Ramseys, and your sure you know who "did it."

Your hybrid car is stocked with Ani Difranco and Indigo Girls CD's.

A member of your family either works or plays for C.U.

Sandals are worn year around, regardless of temperature.

You have either been, or sent your child to an alternative school, (ie. CHOICE), because the other schools didn't challenge you/them enough.

Your waiter has a PhD in philosophy, and a MA in Women's Studies

You understand that "8 glasses of water a day" is what is required before 10:00 a.m. Hence, the Nalgene

Your sense of direction is: towards the mountains and away from the mountains.

Your friends don't eat meat, but they guzzle microbrew and designer coffee like it's water.

In any given line you can see a white person with dreadlocks who is barefoot and the next person is wearing Prada, Chanel sunglasses, a Rolex and is dripping in diamonds.

You're invited to a Halloween party only to find out "party" means serving peanut-pumpkin soup and sitting around reading Edger Allen Poe.

A "bike ride" is at least a 4-6 hour event, a "shower" is optional.

The only women wearing makeup are over 50 years old.

You know all 4 seasons: "winter," "two day spring,""drought season," and "one day fall".

The 3 most popular bumper stickers are: "Free Tibet," "I love my dog," and any array of Democratic political candidates.

The more holes a young person has in his clothes the more zeros are in his trust fund account balance.

April showers bring May blizzards.

You tell someone you're training for a 10K and they tell you they're training for a marathon and the Ironman.

The true feud which divides people is between those who "board" and the skiers.

You've dressed in shorts, sandals, and a parka.

You've gone skiing in July.

You've gone sunbathing in January.

"Rio," "Pearl," and "Walnut" have nothing to do with Rio, pearls or walnuts.

And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me
Ahhh, it's been a good week in general. Of course, that "general" is pronounced like it is in Spanish. "henerAL" yep. It just sounds better that way. For that sentence, at least. =) Don't know why- it just does. I've decided that I'm going to be like Jinger and Mr. Albritton and work at a university. Be a scientist. Yep. Mr. Albritton showed a supercool demo last week that was literally one of my dreams to see. I've always always wanted to see the Aurora Borealis. Since I was a tyke. That and ride in a hotair balloon. ANYWAY, this demo he showed us was very northern-lightes-esc. It nearly made me ccry it was so pretty. Man. If I could do that everyday I would be so happy. THUS, I'm gonna be a scienctist. Oh, and Jinger sent Angie and I a letter today, I was very happy to get it. I was afraid she wouldn't send us one, but she did, of course. How could I ever doubt her?

I just saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. It was great. I really liked it. Really really. It was the ultimate Sci-Fi movie. And the special effects were fabulous. And they had Star Wars references, and Lord of the Rings, and Wizard of OZ. It was all super. YEAH! I think I might have to own it. Maybe. It wouldn't be as as good at home- the big screen really helped. However, Sky Captain was really a science fiction movie. If you don't like science fiction, you wouldn't like it. But I do. So I LOVED IT. As Nitin said, "What's not to like". Plus, there was lots of fun lines about "only having two shots left". =) YEAH!

Poor Emily. She's sick with something that she won't tell me. (Although it's not whooping cough or pnemonia) and her dad won't let her do anything and she can't swim. She's very sad about it. I would be too. I feel really bad for her. EMILY! Goodness, what am I going to do with you? Get well soon, buddy. For my sake as well as yours.

October 12, 2004
Hey where did we go,
Days when the rains came
Down in the hollow,
Playin' a new game,
Laughing and a running hey, hey
Skipping and a jumping
In the misty morning fog with
Our hearts a thumpin' and you
My brown eyed girl,
You my brown eyed girl.
The aerobic set to day was certainly the hardest yet. The hardest this year, I mean. There have been harder, but not in the first 3 weeks of practice. Man, my butterfly was turning into a sinking fly. Like in that story about the princess who saves a fly from the Prince's teacup. Except that no one saved me. After I got home I had to lie in the lawn to cool off- our house was too warm to stay in. WHEW! But I'm officially the right temperature now. However, during the aerobic set, I was doing long-division again. I did that a lot when I was 12-13, but not so much these last few years. But I did it again today. I was finding what fraction and what percent of the set I had swam, and how much more we had to go. It was all very dorky. Ahh well. Everyone knows I'm a dork, they just don't realize that in so many ways......
The Royal Banner is coming out on Friday. I wrote an ultra-long article for it. http://banner.flatirons.org Yeah. Go there
MAN, in some ways I find it extrordinarily hard to believe that it's only October. In other ways, we've been in school for A WHOLE 6 WEEKS. And that's incredible, too. I don't think that it's been that long. But it has. ANd part of me thinks it's been 6 months. Ahh well. I'm already planning what I'm going to be doing next summer. Of Course.

Where the blind may see unconditionally

The remedy is the experience. It is a dangerous liaison
I says the comedy is that it's serious.
Which is a strange enough new play on words
I say the tragedy is how you're gonna spend the rest of your nights with the light on
So shine the light on all of your friends when it all amounts to nothing in the end.
I wont worry my life away.
I wont worry my life away.

This has been a crazy crazy week. Crazy beyond reason. Man. Had had some major moodswings going on a school. It was weird. One minute I was physched because Exalibur sang for one of my classes (they were fantastic) and then the next minute my history teacher gave us a KILLER assignment that was due the next day. It was up and down all week. But now I'm going to see SHARK TALE with Ellen tonight. It should be super fun. Ellen is very cool.

Yesterday in English Mrs. Gardner gave the speech of the century. I wish I could orate like her. I was on the verge of tears for no explainable reason. She wasn't talking about sad things, just what she said made so much sense to me. I was WOWing for a long time. Life is what you make it- out of the experiences as you see them. That's what she said.

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.

-William Carlos William

Dr. Wei says that that poem is worthless. She hates it. Mrs. Gardner says this poem is the key. It's everything. I think I agree with Mrs. Gardner.

October 05, 2004
Anything you can do,
I can do better.
I can do anything
Better than you.
The Royal Banner placed 2nd in the BEST IN SHOW category for CO HS papers. Good for us. I do like field trips- even though I missed two tests (Spanish and Math) and was late to swimming. Today Mindy told Lucy her streamline was "fan-flippin'-tastic" and I nearly died. That's Jinger's catch-phrase- it was very weird to hear it from a different person. I made sure all the Meadows kids knew that Mindy said "Fan-flippin-tastic". They all understood the Jinger-reference.

The vice-presidential debates are on tonight, I do believe. That'll be fun. If I get a chance to watch them....

I have another 6-degrees of separation, although I think it might be less than that. I haven't thought it all the way out yet. So, my good friend Steph and I met in 4th grade, but weren't really friends until 9th. She runs with Sam Kelly- who climbs with Sarah Culton-McNichols, who went to my middle school (which only had about 130 kids in it)AND swam on my swim team when I was 9-ish (the same time I met Steph) Isn't that nice? The things you learn while driving to Fort Collins. =) I sure am glad I live in Boulder. Why don't kids like Boulder? I think it's the best place in the world.

October 04, 2004
I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high
So won't you try to come
Swim practice was fun today. I'm fairly sure we won't be able to convince Mindy to let us have a few extra seconds rest during the aerobic set. Bummer. But, if her wish comes true, she won't be starting us. Mindy wants to do power rack. And who can blame her? The power rack is the ultimate cool swim-toy. =) Swimming is very much fun. The kids are so nice and fun. It's terrific. I do kinda miss the "fantastic four" from last year, though- me and Steph and Katherine and Emily. Kath and Emily went year-round so will only come to practice twice a week or so, and Steph will come soon, after Cross Country is over, which I am glad of- I'm feeling a little threatened by fast sophmores. Not really threatened, I guess, they'll just different than Steph and them. Meh- every year is different. I'll get used to it.
I'm going to CSU Journalism Day tomorrow. It'll be fun, I think. At least I don't have to go to school. =) But I have to wake up just as early, if not more so, and then go to swim practice, and then do all the HW I missed. It's funny- some kids FREAK OUT about missing a day of school, and others couldn't really care less. I'm kinda in the middle. I only have 1-2 sick days a year, and 1-2 days I miss because of field trips and such. So I don't worry to much about missing class. Yep.

October 02, 2004
I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright, bright sunshinin' day
It's gonna be a bright, bright sunshinin' day
Swimming started on monday. I was very excited. Still am, for that matter. It was great. Jill Myers, our assistant coach, was there two days. (YEAH JILL!) She's so funny. I'll have to ask her about Kenny.=) Our new assistant coach was there a few days, too. Mindy seems very nice. But she makes me laugh during our aerobic sets, and that is just AGAINST THE RULES. Because then I laugh, and then I gag on water while trying to swim fast, and then I die die die. Luckily, they were just 25s that day. Ellen is very speedy- no longer am I the head-honcho at Meadows. I hope Ellen and I can tie for high-point next year. No one would be happy if one person got first and the other got second. I'll have to work hard this year, though. (not like I usually slack off, though.)

The Boulder/Fairview game was yesterday. Boulder's our cross-town rivals- so it was fun. It was the first football game I had been to this year. It was a lot of fun. After swimming we walked down and had pizza for lunch and then went to the game. I walked in a Sarah Judkins says "HI KRISTENNICOLE! here..." and promptly sprays one side of my hair red and the other white. (Thanks for that Sarah and Angie and Annamarie. It hasn't come out yet =) )Then, a few minutes later, as I was manuevering around over-stuffed bleachers (we were the away team this year, so we got jipped with the tiny side of the stadium) Emily Weigel says "Kristen! How are you? Do you want a cape?" Me-"A cape?" And then realize she's wearing a cape and has stripes of red and black in her hair and a red feather boa. Emily- "Sure! It's a Hermione cape"and ties it around my shoulders. Thanks for the cape, Emily, it made my day =) Anyway-so that was fun. I wandered around and saw lots and lots of people I knew, most of whom didn't really know me. But that's okay- they'll get to know me eventually. Anyway, Fairview won the game in overtime, which was very exciting. Last year Boulder won in 4 overtimes and they had won the year before, too. So I was psyched. Yeppers. Sorry I didn't post for a long time. I had a CRAZY week.
